    Thanks, interesting hand: this is certainly one ugly misfit (and doesn't help that partner's spade suit is also kinda meh). After partner's initial 2S bid, what would 3D from south show? Would that be a western cue bid, looking to play in 3N with a good stop in spades? Or something else? Or just not worth bidding?

    The double promised 3 clubs and they will be on the club bidder's right side. His opponent can only win one club. I like the club call. The hand has a 6-loser count, and your partner may not have a strong spade. The auction continues because the new suit is forcing. Let the partnership explore its options.

    Over 4D I have huge sympathy for you - I think your reasoning is sound - partner can bid 4C if unsure whether to go for hearts or diamonds. They haven't mentioned hearts so they can easily have a singleton - I don't think you want to be in slam on this hand either. Thank god I didn't get this hand 🙂

    What would a 6C response to the 5S bid mean in the mainline auction? Would it also deny the QH, but also provide partner the addition clue that one of your key cards is the AC? Or does it imply you have the QH?

    • @marksmanmaster2846
      @marksmanmaster2846 11 днів тому

      The only way to deny the qH is to bid 6H. That is what partner is asking for so we give them an answer that reflects their question. They could have asked for specific kings. If we bid any suit here, we are showing the king in the bid suit + the queen of trump. So 6C means QH+KC. Showing the kings are more important than the position of the ace because most of the time partner will be asking for the q only when we have all of the keycards in which case they know we have the AC.

    Ah, opening the bidding on 11-12 point flat hands... Partner and I got into 6D when I opened overly light (it was close to the end of the evening...). In our natural system, partner didn't have a rebid to show a very strong 3-3-4-2 hand, so he just responded 4NT to ask for aces. We were missing one... Plus a whole lot of other points! 5D did make, though... As did 3NT. If I hadn't opened, it would have gone 1D-2N-3N 🤦‍♂

  • @isaacstone3934
    @isaacstone3934 21 день тому

    I’d also pass 2!S and 1N. Hand is soft, outside suits aren’t setting up, and we aren’t good for p. Definitely passing 3!S after game try. And I think 2!N by north is bad on 4 card majors. 2M shouldn’t show extras here, they should just be F1. Unfortunately you land in 2N anyway, but with no entries, everything setting up to slowly, so I’m just looking for any plus score after partner shows a min

  • @isaacstone3934
    @isaacstone3934 21 день тому

    I’d pass 2!D

  • @mercutio24
    @mercutio24 22 дні тому

    You did the right thing. You're too strong to pass, but too weak for a two-over-one response, especially over a takeout double. No way you could know the double was a psych of course. Just the way it goes sometimes.

  • @michaelbodell7740
    @michaelbodell7740 23 дні тому

    I'm used to people often playing new suits at the 1 level over the X as forcing, but at the 2 level as non-forcing. If you aren't XX with 10+ and aren't 1/1 then your 2C bid can both describe your hand and limit it somewhat. The hand depends a lot on the fit since it is only 6 losers (so argues game opposite an opener if you have a fit), but only 8 count (and 2 of those the stiff Q), so argues that you likely don't have game if partner passes. Over 2C if LHO bids hearts and/or if partner bids 2D you may be able to back in with 2S. If I held your partners hand I'd pass over 2C and then it would be up to E who I don't know if they'd pass, re-double again or try something else. If your partner did bid 2NT over 2C, I'd think about passing, but think 3C is probably right for fear of no entry. RHO's X witha 15 count and 43 in the majors isn't totally crazy, although if their partner had long clubs they might be in trouble unless they play equal level correction and could bid 2H without showing a single suited power double. Without ELC I'd be more likely to try 1NT than X with that hand.
